HRH Prince Philip Remembrance Event

The residents at Claremont Lodge Care Home, nursing home in West Sussex, were saddened by the recent passing of HRH Prince Philip and they were keen to pay their respects by holding their own remembrance event on the day of his funeral.

With the flags at half mast and the lounge decked out in Union Jack bunting, the day’s events began with the televised commentary prior to the funeral, which included a whole host of guests reflecting on the life and experiences of Prince Philip.

2pm saw the beginning of the funeral procession and our residents each raised a tipple to the Prince, before a minute's silence was observed ahead of the start of the funeral. This was followed by afternoon tea with scones, jam and cream - utilising the special china set given the significance of the situation!

The day of remembrance finished with a buffet supper during which the residents discussed their memories of the Prince. It was a lovely yet mournful day full of respect for the HRH Prince Philip and his lifetime of service to the UK.
