RBCH attend Rotary Red Carpet Gala Screening 110th Birthday
Residents of Royal Bay Care Homes attend Rotary Wessex Red Carpet Gala Screening on the 110th Birthday for Rotary International.
On Monday 23rd February, both Royal Bay residents and staff attended a film premiere of Fox Searchlight Pictures’ ‘The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel’ held at the University of Southampton. The special evening was organised by Rotary Wessex in association with The Damaris Trust.
The exclusive ‘Red Carpet’ event was the first ever, raising thousands of pounds for Age UK Southampton and Rotary Wessex. The money raised will be used to take isolated older people to see the film after it opens in cinemas on February 26. Attendees included the Vice President Elect of RIBI Eve Conway, Olympic diver Pete Waterfield and Dame Esther Ranzten.
After getting dressed in their best, residents and staff from several Royal Bay Care Homes from Dorset and West Sussex travelled to Southampton to attend the special fund-raising birthday celebrations.
Russell Wilson, Managing Director of Royal Bay Care Homes said, “As a member of Rotary personally, when we received the invitation to sponsor such a great night, we immediately jumped at the chance to support the cause. Enriching the lives of the elderly is what we do, so it was brilliant to support organisations that have a similar ethos. We at Royal Bay always try and help charitable causes when we can.”
An excellent night was had by all, getting to experience the red carpet treatment, witness some incredibly talented university students perform some authentic Indian dancing as well as enjoy the Indian cuisine refreshments at the after party.
One of the Royal Bay residents who attended the screening said, ”It has been about 30 years since my husband took me to the cinema and tonight has been a real treat”.
The Damaris Trust (www.damaris.org) is an educational charity, that works in partnership with the film industry, to provide free official community resources to accompany the latest film releases. Damaris enables community groups to organise trips to the cinema followed by themed food, quizzes and discussion - thus enriching the lives of their members and those they serve in the wider community.
